Why Do Americans Think Trump Supporters Are Stupid?

An anguished question from a Trump supporter: “Why do Americans think Trump supporters are stupid?”

Ah, yes, the “elite,” “tolerant left,” letting Trump live “rent free” 24/7 … Why are they so full of hate for our president?

Here’s what most Americans (including Democrats, centrists and conservatives of good faith) really think about Trump supporters—the rich ones, the poor ones, the ones who follow politics and the ones who don’t, the hardcore racists and the hard-working, well-meaning “real Americans” who put Trump in the highest office in the land:

Trump supporters saw a man who owned a fake “University,” intent on scamming poor people, and thought “Fine.”

They saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors and not pay his worker and said, “I can trust him.”

Trump complained about “Fake News” even though false articles that went viral in the first year of his presidency skewed heavily Republican. Trump supporters hit that “share” button even harder.

When he said that the unemployment rate under Obama was 42 percent while every professional economist said otherwise, Trump supporters said “He knows more than economists!

When Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, lost track of 1500 kids, opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas and said “These aren’t people. These are animals,” Trump supporters said “Build the wall!

When Trump talked about building that wall… a $67 billion wall that experts agree will do little or nothing to stop illegal immigration (a hugely overblown problem to begin with), Trump’s fans said, “yeah, that sounds like a great investment!

When he talked about staring trade wars while economists pointed out how much they would hurt America, Republicans said “Sounds good to me!

When he talks to foreign dignitaries and insults their countries, demanding that they praise his electoral win, Trump supporters said, “That’s how diplomacy is done!

When he removed expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they’re supposed to be regulating, Trump supporters said, “What a genius!

When Donald promised to cut regulations only eight years after the great recession was caused by cutting regulations, his sheep said “Great idea!

When he refused to divest from his businesses that might create a conflict of interest and refused to disclose his tax returns, and then when pressed about it, said he didn’t pay taxes because “that makes me smart,” his supporters didn’t bat an eye.

When Republicans heard about his ex-wife describe an 1989 assault and (her word) rape, when you heard him brag about his history of sexual abuse, and when you heard Michael Cohen, special counsel at The Trump Organization, respond by saying “You cannot rape your spouse, Trump voters said, “No problem here!

When Trump spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to conceal multiple affairs with a porn star and a Playboy model shortly after his third wife gave birth, Trump’s fans said “Boys will be boys!

When the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn’t commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, Republican idiots said, “I like that he’s tough on minorities criminals!

When you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys to represent them, Trump’s fans thought, “He does the right thing!

When he made up stories about Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you idiots said, “He sure tells it like it is!

When you heard him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn’t care, you chirped, “I sure wouldn’t!

When you heard him tell that cute story about the elderly guest bleeding on the floor at his country club, the story about how he turned his back and how it was all an imposition on him, you said, “That’s a good man!

When you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw.

When you heard him brag that he doesn’t read books, you said, “Street smarts is all you need!

When you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man’s coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, “What a great guy!

When you watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, you gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

When he continued to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging the office of President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, you said, “That’s smart business!

When you heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it is “surrounded by water” you said, “Well, he’s got a point!

When you saw him start fights with every ally from Canada to New Zealand, while praising Russia and saying he “fell in love” with the ruthless dictator of North Korea, and said, “That’s statesmanship!

When you witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise.

So, Do People Really Think Trump Supporters Are Stupid?

Hey, Trump voters: Don’t take it personally. Democrats and everybody else can succumb to frustration and say mean things. Instead of responding rationally, they may call you stupid. Name-calling may be childish (not that you guys would know that). It may be unhelpful. But it’s also … hear me out … Charitable.

Because if you’re NOT stupid, there must be some other explanation

Trump has consistently demonstrated himself to be both ignorant and intellectually challenged. He has a long and very public history of making bad decisions for which he blames other people. He has a profound issues many medical professionals associate with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, the characteristics of which drive every single choice he makes. Yet his supporters do not see this glaringly obvious complex of issues as a problem.

Yes, Trump supporters. That makes you, at best, irredeemably stupid.
